Water Damage Restoration Questions

water damage restoration

When you need water damage restoration services, it’s probably safe to assume you’ve been the victim of a disaster, whether from a severe storm, flood or fire.

If you’re like most of our customers, however, you may not have given this issue a lot of thought before your time of need. For that reason, you’re likely to have a head full of questions, in addition to the worry and fear that comes with any catastrophe.

Whether it’s your home or business that sustained damage, this information can help you understand what you’re up against and how best to get help.

How Long Does Water Damage Restoration Take?

Of course, the time it takes to clean up any type of flood or fire scene depends on the extent of the damage. It also depends on how quickly your disaster restoration company gets to work.

Our experienced technician respond quickly and get to work immediately extracting standing water and cleaning up the damage. Next, we place specialized industrial fans and dehumidifiers to dry out all exposed surfaces. We utilize state-of-the-art commercial disinfectants and deodorizers to address any mold, bacteria or other contaminants that cause bad smells and potentially make you sick.

If the damage was limited, the drying process could be completed in just a day or two. For more substantive flood damage, it could take up to five days (or more) to dry interior areas completely.

When Will It Be Safe to Return After Water Damage?

If your home or business was exposed to flooding from untreated water or sewage, mold and contaminant testing will be necessary to identify potential health hazards. If mold remediation is necessary, follow-up surface and air testing will indicate when it’s safe to return.

In most cases, you can return to the building once we complete remediation, as long as no hazards are present. However, exposed electrical wires, structural concerns or other safety issues may prevent you from returning until they have been fully repaired.

Will My Insurance Cover Water Damage Restoration?

Most property insurance policies (residential and commercial) cover water damage under specific conditions. Broken pipes, faulty sprinkler systems and damage that occurs in the wake of a fire typically are covered.

The exception in most cases is flooding from weather and natural disasters. These events may require flood insurance coverage. Some policies do cover wind-driven rain, however, as long as it isn’t part of a hurricane (not a likely event in Utah, under any circumstances).

Before you have reason to need insurance coverage for water damage, talk to your agent about your current coverage. That way, you’ll never find yourself facing the prospect of paying out-of-pocket for water damage remediation and restoration.
